About Me
Moving to The Netherlands
I moved to The Netherlands to study game design after following a game development course back in Israel. I knew I wanted to take my studies further and to the next level. Specifically, learn more about Unreal Engine, an engine that isn’t common in the gaming industry in Israel. Breda University was exactly what I was looking for.
My Academic Journey
At the beginning of my study, I was naturally drawn to the producer role.
What I enjoyed the most about the role was learning how to support each new team in executing the creative vision. Being able to identify dependencies in the project by getting to know the individuals behind it helped me become a better lead and person.
However, It was hard for me to stay away from the engine. After trying to act both as a producer and a developer in my 2nd year, I knew I had to make a choice. As such, I became a full-time game designer in my 3rd year. Hoping that I’ll be able to learn how to be a better lead by being led by others and go back to the roots of what I love about making games - the player.
My Game Designer Identity
As a game designer, my passion lies in the player experience. Video games offer such a unique and immersive experience that can’t be said for many other forms of media. That is what got me into video games as a young girl.
Throughout my study, I’ve delved into many elements of game design, such as the 3C’s, player mechanics, cinematics, audio, narrative, and more. All allowed me to explore different angles of the player experience, learn how they intertwine with each other, and become a jack of all trades.
Getting My Foot in the Door
As part of my study, I had the opportunity to get a year-long internship. I was lucky to be hired as a technical cinematic designer for Hangar 13, a unique role that combined my passion for cinematography and my love for scripting and creating systems in Unreal Engine. Taking part in the active development of a triple-A title taught me about the process of releasing a game in the industry and how to collaborate with a global team.
